Theatre company Dante or Die is looking for Whitley people to act or sing in their new show Take On Me, which will be staged at the South Reading Leisure Centre on Northumberland Avenue in March 2019.

Dante or Die, a resident theatre company at the South Street Arts Centre, say they are looking for enthusiastic volunteers of any gender aged 16 or over to perform as dancers and singers, or work behind the scenes. Speaking and non-speaking roles are available, and previous experience is not necessary.

Nicky Ridley, community arts project community at Dante or Die says:

The show is set in a leisure centre in the 1980s. The audience follow the story of a recently widowed lady and a life guard who each rely on the world of the leisure centre to keep them connected.

The changing rooms, the fitness suite, the dance studio and the swimming pool become the backdrop to the acting, and live music featuring hits from a-ha, Bonnie Tyler and George Michael accompany the action.

Local aerobics and fitness class fans who would like to take part in the show’s aerobics scene can attend a try-out session for an hour at the South Reading Leisure Centre on Monday 29 October at 6pm or 7pm, or Wednesday 31 October at 5.30pm.

Aspiring local actors can attend a workshop at the leisure centre on Thursday 1 November or Saturday 3 November from 2pm until 4pm.

The show’s finale needs singers, and the theatre group say they would like to meet local choirs during the week of 29 October to 3 November. Individual singers should come to the leisure centre for an hour on Thursday 1 November or Saturday 3 November at 3pm.

There are also behind-the-scenes opportunities for local people interested in costume, hair, make-up or production, or who want to be ushers.
