‘In Reading Gaol by Reading Town’

A new exhibition of artworks inspired by Oscar Wilde‘s ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol‘ opened on Saturday 31 August in the Turbine House of the Riverside Museum at Blake’s Lock. ‘In Reading Gaol by Reading Town‘ features works by 20 Reading artists curated by fellow local artists Jenny Halstead and Linda Saul.

Katesgrove artists Tom Cartmill and Robert Fitzmaurice both have dramatic works on show. There are also pieces by Jenny Halstead and Sally Castle who are familiar names from the Whiteknights Studio Trail.

There is a special display of the stamps used by Peter Hay (1951-2003) for the illustrations in the Two Rivers Press editions of ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol‘.

The free exhibition is open every day from 10am to 5pm until 15 September.
